A few years ago I had considerable credit card debt. I had three cards, and I thought it would be simpler to ask for a loan from my bank so I could pay them off and have just the bank loan to worry about. When I talked to the main man, he said that I couldn't borrow much without collateral, and what I *could* borrow would make just a small dent in my card debt. I didn't understand why the card issuers would lend me so much when my bank of over ten years with only one bounced check that turned out to be the bank's fault would not; but clearly the bank and the card issuers were using different lending criteria. I thought this was worth mentioning.
